     Thirty-one compatriots and family members gathered at the Manor House at Poplar Springs in Casanova, VA for our chapter's 2015 Chapter Awards Meeting today.  Sixteen members, one prospective, and fourteen family members watched as we inducted five new members and presented awards to members for chapter service.  The first order of business was inducting five new members: MG (Ret) Greg Schumacher and his grandson, Lincoln Field; David Messick, Jr. and his son and grandson, Mickey Messick and William Messick.  Additionally Greg Schumacher was given certificates, rosettes, and CMM Battle Flag pins for his son and two grandsons who live in California.  Past Virginia SAR and CMM President Jim Bayne conducted the ceremony.

Our newest members:

Major General Gregory A. Schumacher retired after 37 years of service effective 1 September 2011. He is the President of The GS Group, LLC, Adjunct Staff with the RAND Corporation, and a Principal with Deep Water Point.  His last assignment was Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence on the Army Staff at the Pentagon from 2008-2011. Major responsibilities were representing the Army’s emerging Cyber role in the 2010 Quadrennial Defense Review and related forums, providing intelligence leadership to Army and Defense Biometrics initiatives, and the Army’s co-lead for language and culture policies and training. After selection to Brigadier General in 2004, he stood up and commanded the Military Intelligence Readiness Command (MIRC), a nation-wide organization, and the first of its kind functional intelligence command in the Army Reserve. Other key assignments included Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, U.S. Army Reserve Command, two brigade commands, commander of a regional, Reserve Component intelligence production and training facility, and serving in a special mission unit. He is known as a Subject Matter Expert in AC/RC integration, particularly in the intelligence community, and for creative, unconventional solutions to optimize limited resources across an enterprise. From May to August 2004, he served as the Deputy Executive Director for the Independent Panel to Review DoD Detention Operations, and recently served as Director of Analysis and then Executive Director for the National Commission on the Structure of the Air Force. Major General Schumacher is a 1974 graduate of the United States Military Academy, holds a Master of Education from Texas Tech University, and is a 1998 U.S. Army War College graduate.

Lincoln Kyle Gregory Field was born Feb 1, 2014 in Montgomery, Alabama.  He is the son of MAJ Damon Gregory Field (USAF) and Sara Alyssa Schumacher Field. Lincoln has lived in three states since his birth – Alabama, Kansas, and now Virginia. He is accomplished at sorting and loves music. He sings and carries a great tune, although you sometimes can’t understand the words.  He keeps busy watching and learning from his older sisters, Ella and Quinn. Lincoln loves God and America and has great respect for the Founding Fathers, the Declaration, and the Constitution…… he just doesn’t know it yet.

David Marshall Messick, Jr. was born in Warrenton, Va.  July 8, 1949  -  Raised in Midland and graduated from Fauquier High School 1967.   Attended Northern Virginia Community College and various flight schools.  Married Margie Jenkins of Culpeper and therefore have resided in Culpeper with her for 38 years.  We have one Son:  David IV  (Mickey) and two daughters Kathryn and Laura.  Each of the three have a son and a daughter giving us three grand sons and three grand daughters.  Holder of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate I was a corporate pilot for over thirty years.  Retired as Chief Pilot for Omni Services (holding company of Rental Uniform Services). in 2001 when the company was sold.  Flight Department consisted of four aircraft.   In 1986 while employed full time as a pilot I founded Blue Ridge Coach Lines, Inc. a charter bus and tour company.  I currently own and operate this company which has a stellar reputation and is the oldest company of it's type in the area.  I have a great rewarding hobby of coin collecting having been encouraged by my son Mickey to get involved with him quite a few years ago.  He has thus far beat me on hitting on the rarest gold coin.  I have strong conservative and Christian values attending and a member of Thoroughfare Bible Church in Madison County. 

David Marshall "Mickey" Messick, IV, was born and raised in Culpeper VA. Lived here all my life except a brief period where we lived in Newnan, GA from 2005-2012. Graduated from Fredericksburg Christian High School with an advanced diploma and went on to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville SC.  I graduated from their Business and Commercial Aviation program with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and also earned all my FAA pilot certificates and ratings.
     After graduating Bob Jones University I was hired at Atlantic Coast Airlines where I was a first officer from 2001-2005. When they went out of business I was hired at ExpressJet Arlines in 2005, I am currently employed at ExpressJet as a Captain on the CRJ-700/900 Series aircraft. I volunteer with the Department of Homeland Security as a Federal Flight Deck Officer.
     I hold an Airline Transport Pilot certificate and am also a current Flight Instructor with Instrument and Multi-engine instructor ratings.
     I most enjoy spending time with my wife of 13 years Amy and our two children Abigail (6) and William (2). Some of my hobbies include golf, fishing, hunting, shooting sports and coin collecting with my Dad. I am a member of the NRA and the Garand Collectors Association. I am also a very active Member at Family Community Church in Culpeper.


William James Messick was born in Culpeper VA and is a very active and playful 2 year old. He enjoys playing with his sister and watching Curious George on TV. His favorite thing is Tractors but he likes just about anything with wheels that make lots of noise.

     Awards Chairman Lance Lyngar presented Certificates of Appreciation to Gar Schulin and Ben Works for their significant contributions to the chapter over the past year.

     CMM President Bill Schwetke selected Jim Lillard for this year's Chapter Distinguished Service Medal, awarded for providing exceptional support to the president during the year.  Second awards of this medal are not allowed.

     Secretary Jake Lay received the CMM Gold Medal to recognize his years of service to the CMM in many capacities.

     After lunch the CMM conducted a business meeting, with the most important business being the election of chapter officers for 2016.  The following were elected by acclamation.
