16 Feb 2019 South Boston, VA
Today five members of the Culpeper Minutemen Chapter participated in celebrating the 238th anniversary of the narrow escape of General Greene and the Southern Continental Army across the Dan River on 14 Feb 1781. Upon reaching safety General Greene's Army found farmers of Virginia streaming to their camp at South Boston with desperately needed food and supplies. Also welcome were the significant reinforcements of Virginia Militia who answered Governor Thomas Jefferson's call to aid General Greene's Army. This led, in a short few weeks, to the Battle of Guilford Courthouse where General Greene's Army inflicted very heavy casualties on General Conwallis' Army, causing Cornwallis to move to Yorktown to seek relief. Vice President Charles Jameson led the CMM participants and presented the chapter wreath. All CMM participants participated in the Color Guard. The Ceremony was conducted entirely indoors at the Prizery due to the rain outside. |
