Patriot Colonel James Wren Grave Marking

     1st Vice President Charles Jameson led a contingent of four CMM members participating in the marking of Col James Wren's grave.  Charles presented the chapter wreath and participated in the Color Guard; CMM Color Guard Commander Michael Dennis and Bill Schwetke participated in the musket salutes; and dual member Jeff Thomas was one of the speakers in the program.
     Col Wren was an architect who designed many local structures that are still standing, including Fairfax County Courthouse, The Falls Church, and Pohick Church.  He is a first cousin, once removed, of the famous British architect, Christopher Wren, who designed Saint Paul's Cathedral.

     The DAR National Congress was held in Washington, DC this week.  CMM Compatriot Bill Schwetke attended with his wife, Cat.  NSSAR was represented by President General Warren Alter, who brought greetings on opening night.

     The CMM Chapter gathered at Yowell Meadow Park at the historic monument near where the original Culpeper Minutemen first mustered in 1775, to pay tribute to their sacrifices for liberty.  The Chapter was joined by VASSAR President Peter Davenport - who was also representing the George Mason Chapter, President Dale Corey and V. President Marc Robinson from the Col. James Woods II Chapter, President Mike Weyler from the Col. William Grayson Chapter, President Tim Dioquino from the Fairfax Resolves Chapter, Vice regent Jojuan White from the Culpeper Minutemen DAR, members of the Fauquier Court House DAR and the Ashby's Gap Society CAR.
CMM President Tom Hamill was the master of ceremonies - CMM Vice President Charles Jameson read the History of the Culpeper Minutemen and presented the Chapter Wreath.  

The following names a biographies were read for this year's Roll of Honor:

     Aaron Hamill rang a bell after each name was read, and Compatriot Scott Jenkins, Ashby's Gap Member Lea Hamill and FCH DAR Member Kathy Truskey read the patriot biographies.
     Compatriot Tracy Jenkins played patriotic melodies on the bagpipes, a musket volley followed the readings and Gerry Schuck of Bugles Across America played Taps.

     The Col James Wood II Chapter dedicated a monument to the six members of the "Ductch Mess", who marched to Boston with Daniel Morgan and then fought in General Arnold's Quebec Campaign.  CMM Color Guard Commander Michael Wilson presented the CMM wreath and past CMM President Bill Schwetke presented the Virginia SAR wreath.  Both Michael and Bill participated in the Color Guard.

     The Col James Wood II Chapter marked the grave of Private John Schultz today.  John Schultz was a member of the Dutch Mess in Morgan's Rifle Company in the Quebec Campaign of the Revolutionary War.  CMM Color Guard Commander Michael Wilson presented the CMM wreath and past CMM President Bill Schwetke presented the Virginia SAR wreath.  Both Michael and Bill participated in the Color Guard.

     About 75 Veterans with escorts were sent off to DC from Shenandoah University early this morning.  The Col James Wood II Color Guard presented the colors for the Send Off Ceremony.  CMM past President Bill Schwetke participated in the Color Guard.

     This Saturday the Fairfax Resolves Chapter led a ceremony to mark the 238th Anniversary of General Wayne's crossing of the Potomac to join the campaign in Virginia that led to Yorktown.  1st Vice President Charles Jameson and Color Guard Commander Michael Dennis represented the CMM.  Charles Jameson presented the chapter wreath and both compatriots marched with the Color Guard.

Cedar Grove Cemetery Grave Marking

     CMM President Tom Hamill led the six CMM Compatriots who participated in the marking of five Revolutionary War Patriots' graves in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth.  This was a Virginia SAR Presidential Initiative.  President Hamill presented the chapter wreath and marched with the Color Guard.  Bill and Doug Schwetke also marched with the Color Guard.  Also participating were Mike Lyman, Aaron Hamill, and dual member Jeff Thomas.  Every CMM compatriot presented a wreath for various chapters and organizations.

The plaque is unveiled by Virginia SAR President Peter Davenport, on the left, and Society of the War of 1812 in Virginia President, Stuart L. Butler.
    CMM President Tom Hamill led the six CMM Compatriots who participated in the marking of eleven Revolutionary War Patriots' graves in Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery in Portsmouth.  This was a Virginia SAR Presidential Initiative and a joint dedication with the Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which marked fourteen graves.  President Hamill presented the chapter wreath and marched with the Color Guard.  Bill and Doug Schwetke also marched with the Color Guard.  Also participating were Mike Lyman, Aaron Hamill, and dual member Jeff Thomas.  Every CMM compatriot presented a wreath for various chapters and organizations.
