26 Jun 2025 Washington, DC The SAR provided help at the NSDAR DAR/SAR/S.R. Relations Committee booth at the Sparkle in Service Exhibition during the 2025 Congress. At this booth three SAR Color Guardsmen in Continental Uniforms posed for pictures with well over 100 of the visitors to the booth. This is the third year that this committee and their booth at Congress has existed and the third year that CMM compatriot Bill Schwetke has participated, along with Virginia SAR 2nd VP and CMM dual member Ken Bonner and Bob Cohen of the Texas SAR. At the end of the evening all three Color Guardsmen participated in interviews with the American Battlefield Trust.
26 Jun 2025 Washington, DC Today the Virginia DAR held their Annual Luncheon at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC as part of the NSDAR 2025 Congress. The CMM were represented by Bill Schwetke.
24 Jun 2025 Washington, DC Today, in a prelude to the NSDAR 2025 Congress the DAR raised and lowered flags on the flagpole at Constitution Hall to be presented during the Congress. This was kicked off with an opening ceremony for which the SAR provided the Color Guard. Bill Schwetke carried the 50-star US Flag. Hunting Shirts were the uniform of the day because of a heat index well over 100˚.
21 Jun 2025 Camp Peary, VA The Virginia SAR conducted a ceremony at Camp Peary to celebrate the departure of Governor Dunmore's flight from Virginia in 1775. He was staying at his hunting lodge, Porto Bello, when a crowd approached and he fled to the Royal Navy ship Fowey which was anchored off shore. This marked the end of British rule in Virginia. The CMM was represented by Bill Schwetke who presented the chapter wreath and marched in the Color Guard.
We are waiting for pictures to be provided by the Camp Peary staff. 17 Jun 2025 Warrenton, VA The June Meeting of the CMM Chapter was held after the Commemoration of the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Gallant Death of Joseph Warren. We met in the Fellowship Hall of Warrenton Bible Fellowship. The meal was catered by Dee. The highlight of this meeting was the induction of David Gerrish, our newest member.
17 Jun 2025 Warrenton, VA This evening the CMM joined with the Fauquier Courthouse Chapter NSDAR and the Fauquier Historical Society/Museum to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill and the gallant death of Dr. Joseph Warren, namesake of Warrenton, VA. Historian General Jeff Thomas represented the NSSAR, President Dr. Michael Weyler represented the Virginia SAR, and our own President Jim Bish was the Master of Ceremonies. Seven speakers from the hosting organizations told of the various stages of Dr. Warren's life. President Bish presented and read a proclamation by the Mayor and Town Council of Warrenton, honoring Dr. Warren that Tuesday, June 17, 1775 "be observed as a day of reflection on the work of Dr. Warren and encouraged all citizens "..to reflect on the legacy of Dr. Warren and the sacrifices made by the patriots of 1775 whose courage and conviction gave birth to our nation". Back row: CMM Vice President Mark Crain, Bill Tugman (CFL), Ken Morris (GM), Bill Schwetke, Charles Jameson, Bill Groth (CWG), Tom Hamill, Michael Dennis. 16 Jun 2025 Charlottesville, VA In January we inducted Dr. Jason Quintern so soon after we were notified of his approval that we did not yet have his membership certificate. Today that was rectified and as we try to do for every new member who has served in the military, law enforcement, or fire safety, we presented the appropriate medal, the SAR Military Service Medal in this case, to Jason along with his Military Service Corps Certificate. Bill Schwetke traveled to Charlottesville to make the presentations. Jason was at the UVA Hospital in Charlottesville where his oldest son, Joshua, has been undergoing cancer treatment for several months. Remember Joshua and the Quintern Family in your prayers. We are working on SAR applications for all three of Jason's sons.
6-14-2025 Mount Vernon, VA The SAR celebrated the 250th Anniversary of the U.S. Army in a ceremony at Mount Vernon, home of the first commanding general of the Army. CMM members John Kuvakas and Bill Schwetke represented the chapter. Bill marched in the Color Guard, carrying the Sons of Liberty Flag.
6-14-2025 Mount Vernon, VA In a once-in-a-lifetime ceremony the SAR marked the graves of George and Martha Washington. John Kuvakas and Bill Schwetke represented the CMM; John presented a carnation in the place of the CMM Wreath as was required by the rules of the ceremony.
