24-25 Sep 2021             The Brown Hotel, Louisville, KY

This weekend the NSSAR held its first in person National Trustees and Leadership Meeting in eighteen months.  The meeting was well attended with thirteen regular Virginia SAR members and many dual members participating, including five who marched with the Color Guard.  The CMM were represented by Bill Schwetke, who is the Virginia SAR member of the Board of Trustees and also participated in the Color Guard.

One significant event for the Virginia SAR was the announcement of a $25,000 contribution to the SAR Museum and Education Center, made possible by our Knight-Patty Fund.

In addition to participating in the Color Guard Bill Schwetke participated, as a member, in the meetings of the Color Guard Committee, Council of State Presidents, Genealogy Committee (as chairman), History Committee, IT Committee, and Membership Committee.  Bill also participated in meetings of the France Society and the Germany Society, being a dual member in both.

The primary accomplishments of the Trustees were the approval of the 2022 Budget and selection of the hosts for the 2025 and 2026 Congresses.  The Congress hosts will be:

2025 - Connecticut
2026 - North Carolina

Along with the hard work, this was a great social occasion with banquets on Friday and Saturday evening, and a Ladies luncheon at the Speed Art Museum.  There were also an unusually large number of first time participants in the Leadership Meeting.

A new dual member joined the CMM at this meeting, Lee Popham of Florida, who also has an ancestor who was a member of the Culpeper Minutemen.  Lee is in the picture below, standing, fourth from the left.  CMM dual members in attendance in addition to Lee Popham were: PG Mike Tomme, PG Lindsey Brock, Secretary General Bruce Pickette, Doug Collins, Andrew Lyngar, Pat Kelly, Mike Weyler, Peter Moller, Gary Green, and Virginia SAR President Jeff Thomas.

13 Sep 2021            Mountain Run Winery, Culpeper

Picture
Once again the Culpeper Minutemen Chapter met at a wonderful location, Mountain Run Winery, owned by prospective member David Foster.  The meal was catered by Loudelia, who once again worked magic with some of the best food you will ever taste.  Attendance was light with only nine members attending (two via Zoom), five wives (four of whom are DAR), and two guests.

The highlight of the meeting was the induction, via Zoom, of James Carpenter, who lives in Lynnewood, WA, but has ties to Culpeper through his patriot ancestors.  Including participation via Zoom has become a regular feature of our chapter functions.

The program was presented by Germanna Foundation Executive Director Tim Sutphin and Archaeologist Dr. Eric Larsen.  Germanna was an early eighteenth century settlement of Germans in Virginia that produced many patriots in our revolution.
