On October 10th 1774 a large force of Shawnee and Mingo warriors under Chief Cornstalk attacked the south wing of the Virginian expedition at the confluence of the Kanawha and Ohio Rivers, today Point Pleasant, WV.  The Virginians at the Battle of Point Pleasant, under the command of Andrew Lewis, in a desperate battle, defeated Cornstalk's warriors and inflicted heavy casualties.  After this victory the two wings of Virginians combined under the command of their royal governor, Lord Dunmore, and forced the surrender of the Shawnee and Mingos.
The Battleground is now Tu-Endi-Wei State Park and a memorial there marks the mass grave of Virginians killed in the battle.  Each year the SAR hosts a ceremony there and this year the CMM wreath was presented by past President Bill Schwetke, who also marched in the Color Guard.  Dual member Pat Kelly also marched in the Color Guard.
