William Fleming was born in 1729 in Scotland, became a surgeon, and as such served in the Royal Navy.  After leaving the navy he moved to Virginia and settled in the Staunton area.  He served in government positions and participated in Dunmore's War, fighting in the Battle of Point Pleasant.  Wounds received at Point Pleasant limited his military participation int he American Revolution, but he was an active patriot.  He served, briefly, as the governor of Virginia between Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Nelson.  He died in 1795 at his plantation near Roanoke and was buried there.

Virginia SAR President Jeff Thomas made marking this grave a presidential initiative.  The CMM wreath was presented by Historian Bill Schwetke who also participated in the Color Guard.  Several dual members also participated, including Spurgeon Keith of the Fincastle Resolutions Chapter who took this opportunity to become a CMM dual member.

Charles Jameson was asked by the Board of Wakefield Day Country School in Flint Hill, Va. to speak at their assembly on Veterans Day. The school is preschool to 12th grade with 180 students and 12 International students. Which made it interesting for a talk about Veterans Day. I spoke on no apostrophe with Veterans Day and I hoped English teachers would not get mad for Veterans Day was for all Veterans, I talked about the history of the Day, the difference from Memorial Day, and there are approximately 19 Million Veterans living 1/10 our population with around 2 million of those being women. I had a few uniforms that Colorguard Commander Michael Dennis would show at appropriate times and capped off with the different Branches of the Service. The students had many questions while looking at our exhibit board and the young ones wanted to talk of their connections to our Veterans.  Michele Jameson, Mike and Charles were treated to a tour of the school while also visiting some classrooms. Information was left on SAR youth programs with interest being shown by Headmaster Paul Larner. It was a great day.
