The 2014 Chapter Awards Meeting was held today at Prince Michel Winery, Leon, Virginia.  The first noteworthy event was the induction of David Wheeler of Amissville, VA.  David's ancestor, John Day, enlisted in the Massachusetts Militia just after Lexington and Concord.  John Day participated in the Siege of Boston and was present for the Battle of Bunker Hill.  David was inducted by Past VASSAR President Jim Bayne.  Past President Lance Lyngar then presented David Wheeler the Military Service Medal for his service in the US Army 1955-58.

The Chapter needed to catch up with several earned, but not yet awarded medals.  The first such medal was the Lydia Darrah Medal, awarded each year by the chapter president to the spouse who provide him with the most support.  This medal was authorized last year with the ability to look back over several years to recognize such women.  Previous year awards went to Mary Ann Cowherd, Betsy Lay, Mary Margaret Lacey, and Beverly Alexander.  This year's award went to Cat Schwetke.
