Jake met his wife of 64+ years, Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Corley, as the younger sister of one of his best friends. Together they had four children and enjoyed the love of travel, exploring the world with family, friends, and the Credit Union. When not working, traveling or volunteering, Jake enjoyed gardening, genealogy, black-and-white photography, and coin collecting.
With a love of God and Country, Jake served three years in the military, he then started his civilian career as a surveyor/cartographer for Fairfax County holding various positions over his 30+ year career to Director of Mapping with the county. While working his 9-5 job Jake continued to proudly serve his country in the United States Army Reserves. His 42 years of service culminated in achieving the rank of Command Sergeant Major and being awarded the Legion of Merit.
Jake had a passion for the Credit Union movement, volunteering for the Fairfax County Employees Credit Union for over 50 years of which 39 were as Chairman of the Board. His primary focus was promoting the Credit Union movement and education; locally, statewide, nationally, and globally. He leaves the legacy of a scholarship with his name for future education.
