Reconstruction of Martin's Station
This weekend the Sons of the American Revolution commemorated the 1775 Raid at Martin's Station with a dinner at Karlan Mansion and a ceremony at Wilderness Road State Park, both in Ewing, VA.
Friday night's highlight was a buffet dinner at Karlan Mansion on the grounds of Wilderness Road State Park hosted by the Martin's Station and Over the Mountain Men Chapters. The guest of honor was President General Lindsy Brock who was accompanied by his wife Billie. VASSAR was well represented by President Reverdy Wright and his wife Lydia, 3rd Vice President Pat Kelly, Secretary Wayne Rouse and his wife Wink, and past President Larry McKinley and his wife Mary Francis. The TNSSAR President, Darrly Addington, also attended. The CMM were represented by President General Lindsey Brock, his wife Billie, CMM President Bill Schwetke and his wife Cat.
The program was an excellent one on the Native Americans of the Cumberland Gap area presented by two interpreters that assist the State Park.

The Saturday morning program began with a Reenactors Militia, JROTC Color Guard (in Militia Uniforms) and the SAR Color Guard marching in the colors, then raising the colors at the Wilderness Road State Park Visitors Center. Then speeches were given, highlighted by the keynote speaker, President General Brock. Next the Militia/JROTC/SAR Color Guard marched to the Martin's Station Monument for the presentation of the wreaths.

At the Martin's Station Monument wreaths were laid, brief remarks were said, taps was played on a bag pipe, and a musket salute was fired, in honor of the patriots who fought during the Raid at Martin's Station.
