Great Bridge Battlefield & Waterways History Foundation President, and past Mayor of Chesapeake, VA, Dr. William E. Ward, was the master of ceremonies today for the official ground breaking for the Museum/Visitor Center, Phase I. The completed building, shown in the above depiction, is expected to be completed next year in time for the 2018 Anniversary of the Battle of Great Bridge. The local Norfolk Chapter and the Great Bridge Chapter DAR have been active in supporting this effort. The Virginia SAR was represented by 2nd Vice President Tom Whetstone. Members of the Norfolk Chapter and the Culpeper Minutemen Chapter attended. The CMM were represented by President Jerry Hubbard and Registrar Bill Schwetke.

11 Sep 2017 Culpeper, VA photos by Kim Atkins On Monday, September 11th, The Culpeper Minutemen Chapter, augmented by Paul Chase of the Col William Grayson Chapter, joined Bugles Across America, the Culpeper Fire Department, the Culpeper Police Department, the Culpeper Sheriff's Office, the VFW, and the American Legion in honoring the heroes of 9/11 and Benghazi. The colors were presented and taps played first at 8:46 AM in front of the Culpeper Fire Department, then at 9:03 in front of the Culpeper Sheriff's Office, then at 9:37 at the Wine Street Memorial Park, then twice at 10:03 at the intersection of Davis and Main. The times were the impact times of the hijacked airliners on September 11th, 2001; and the second taps at Davis and Main remembered the heroes of Benghazi on 9/11/2012. After the final taps the musicians played America the Beautiful, followed by Amazing Grace.

The event was organized by Gerry Schuck of Bugles Across America. 9 Sep 2017 Arlington National Cemetery pictures by Ernie Coggins, Tom Roth (Virginia SAR Historian) and Cat Schwetke Today the George Washington Chapter hosted President General Larry Guzzy as he presented the NSSAR Wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. PG Guzzy was assisted by Virginia SAR Mike Elston in presenting the wreath, and escorted by George Washington Chapter President Paul Walden and Virginia SAR Color Guard Commander Bill Schwetke. The Virginia SAR Color Guard flanked the march down the steps to the tomb in uniform with flags. The CMM were represented by Bill Schwetke who also participated in the Color Guard.
