24 Mar 2018 Prince Michel Winery, Leon, VA The March Chapter Meeting was attended by 23, including 11 compatriots and 2 DAR members. The CMM Color Guard included 3 members in uniform, Dennis, Hamill and Jameson. We were back at one of our favorite places, the Prince Michel Winery in Leon, VA, and the food was catered by Shawn's BBQ of Culpeper. President Tom Hamill presided over his first meeting as our president, and was superb in leading us. After the opening rituals, the first order of business was the induction of a new member, Richard Ashby, descendant of John Ashby, a captain in the 3rd Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line, and also a major of the Fauquier County Militia. John Ashby is buried in Delaplane. Next, our Knight Essay Competition Winner, Julia Gibson, presented her essay on "The General No One Suspected". Then President Tom Hamill presented the Knight Essay Winner's Certificate, the SAR Essay Medal, and a cash award to Ms. Gibson. The next presentation was by our Eagle Scout Award Winner, Connor Culbertson, who also received an Eagle Certificate, Bronze Good Citizenship Medal, and a cash award. This was followed by a catered lunch. Susan Hamill made the arrangements for the meal, catered by Shawn's BBQ of Culpeper. After lunch, Mr. Lucas Allamon of Montpelier gave an informative and exceptionally well presented discussion of the creation and evolution of the Bill of Rights. President Tom Hamill and Vice President Charles Jameson presented Mr. Allamon with a Certificate of Appreciation and an honorarium. After Mr. Lucas' presentation President Hamill conducted the business meeting, highlighted by his facile use of Power Point to illustrate his message.
