22 Aug 2020 Front Royal
It is with heavy heart that I report the passing of compatriot and the Chapter's Founding President, Al White. Al has been undergoing dialysis for the past 6 months for failing kidneys. He has been bedridden since the first of March and last week asked to be removed from the dialysis. He made peace with himself and was ready to go. Al was born 22 January 1927 in Roanoke, Virginia. He served in World War II in Okinawa and in Korea. He had a long distinguished career in education and eventually opened the Glen Manor Winery. He joined the SAR in 2003 and was asked to be the Founding President of a new chapter to be formed in the northern Shenandoah Valley.. In November 2007, the Colonel James Wood II Chapter was chartered under his guidance. Due to the pandemic restrictions, there will be a family only graveside service with the VFW performing military honors and the CJWII Chapter having a small presence (this was at Al's request). The Chapter will be represented by 5 colonial attired compatriots holding the SAR and our Chapter flags in honor of Al. Next year on the one year anniversary of his death (22 Aug 2021), there will be a full funeral service conducted with the SAR presenting the compatriot grave marking ceremony.
Asking all to take a moment of silence and prayer for Al and his family.
