We have been very active the last couple months, as you can see from the postings here on the "Muster Call", and looking at "Coming Events" there are big things ahead. The May meeting will be at a new venue, Poplar Springs Manor in Casanova, VA - I think you will really like this new meeting place. We will hear from our Boy Scout winner and also from constitutional scholar Charles Orndorff. We are meeting 30 minutes earlier than normal so that we can leave in time to make the Rev War/1812 Plaque Dedication at the Masonic Cemetery in Fredericksburg.
We have two big events in June, first our annual Culpeper Minute Men Memorial Observance on June 13th, again this year at the DAR Memorial in Yowell Meadow Park, and the Gabriel Long Memorial dedication on June 20th, also at Yowell Meadow Park. The Gabriel Long Memorial Dedication is our biggest event of the year and the fruit of some fantastic work by our members, led by Lon Lacey.
The June Chapter Meeting will follow the Culpeper Minute Men Memorial Observance, and will be at a new venue in Culpeper that a group of us will check out this week. The speaker is not yet set, but I am hopeful that we will have a speaker on Lord Dunmore who is about to publish a book on that topic. This speaker is also very interested in becoming a member of the SAR and our chapter - more to follow.
It is also time to start planning to attend our Independence Day activities in Culpeper. The Historic Event on the Court House lawn will be enhanced by an excellent portrayal of Benjamin Franklin. We will also be using a tractor-drawn trailer so that not all of us will have to walk the parade route. This is always a great time, organized again by Lon Lacey.
I have used this message to talk about what we have done and what we are doing for a reason. I am asking you to attend our functions as often as you are able. They are always a good opportunity for camaraderie, and are always enjoyable and informative. Please make an extra effort to join us, your compatriots put in a lot of work making these events memorable.
Your Servant,
Bill
